The Holy Grail as the Bloodline of Christ
There are several works of literature which suggest that the bloodline of Jesus Christ
lives on to the present day. In Holy Blood, Holy Grail for instance it is claimed
that Christ did not die on the cross, but lived to marry his first disciple, Mary
Magdalene, with whom he had children. Much pseudo-
Interestingly, from the old French san graal or san greal we obtain the translation Holy Grail. But a slight corruption of this into sang real provides us with a different translation, meaning royal blood.
The truth is that there is every reason to believe that Christ was an ordinary man, who quite probably had a relationship with a woman, and may well have had children. Personally, I feel Christ is all the more remarkable when thought of as a normal man. If he was a normal man it does not diminish the relevance of what he taught us about love.
The idea that the “truth” about Christ’s relationship and descendants was guarded
as a secret is also very easy to believe. We have already seen examples [in the
book] of religious groups who attacked the truth -
Now, with a little back-
Now, if every generation had two children, Christ would have had two children, four grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and so forth, as shown here:
Generation: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 etc
Number of
Descendants: 2 4 8 16 32 64 128 etc
If we continue with this series to the 100th generation, we can work out roughly
how many people would be descendants of Christ today. And we find that Christ would
have 1,237,940,039,285,380,274,899,124,224 or about 1.2 billion billion billion descendants.
And that is a conservative estimate! Well, the human population is currently only
around 6.5 billion. What this shows us is that even if our calculation is out a
bit, Christ’s genes would be so mixed up in the common gene-
If we were able to track down somebody who was a certain descendant of Christ -
The pursuit of Christ’s bloodline doesn’t take into account the importance of a person’s nurture over their nature. If a descendant of Christ was found, their personality would be overwhelmingly dictated by their upbringing and environment1. Having a few of Christ’s genes in a person’s DNA would have negligible effect on the kind of person they would be. The blood line of Christ is…meaningless.
So we can deduce that the Holy Grail interpreted as the bloodline of Christ is another illusion. And yet many people have dedicated large parts of their lives to pursuing Christ’s descendants.
Curiously though, the books Holy Blood, Holy Grail and The Da Vinci Code may be closer to the truth than the Christian Church would like to admit. If they are telling the truth about Christ having descendants with Mary Magdalene, then those books would in effect be publishing the word of God. Which would be ironic, as many conventional Christians are so uncomfortable about the idea of Christ having children. Those Christians may be running away from, and even persecuting God (God being Truth). Personally, I can only remain agnostic about the bloodline of Christ theory. There is at present no way to know for sure, and in any case, identifying Christ’s blood line can have no benefit for quality of life on Earth: it doesn’t help out with the Universal Mission Statement [in the book], so it is not a good idea to waste time pursuing the bloodline.
For all these reasons, we are going to rule out the bloodline of Christ from our search for the Grail.
